ABOUT CITA
A cultural-literary seminar series and artistic forum comprising of KULIAH (Lecture), WACANA ( Discoursing) & WADAH (Performances).

CITA: Bahasa & Budaya is a unique opportunity for Singaporeans to learn more about Singapore's Malay literary and artistic heritage. The audience will hear from respected academics, well-known writers, and talented performers in the Malay community and gain insights into Malay culture. KULIAH will be delivered in Malay while the WACANA segment will be in English as we hope to provide the bilingual experience. The participatory WADAH will highlight the rich artistry of Malay poetry, music and culture.

Kuliah : Cikgu Selamat Omar ( Pantun and Malay Sensibilities)
Pantun, a traditional Malay rhymed quatrain, is the most widely known Malay- Indonesian cultural expression that encapsulates the people’s worldview, values, aesthetics, linguistic expressions and the like. In this seminar, Cikgu Selamat Omar will deliberate the various forms and functions of pantun, including explicating the ways to compose and express pantun in various contexts, while noting its significance and beauty.

About Cikgu Selamat Omar 
He is an educationist has served the teaching service for more than four decades. He was a Malay Language curriculum planner at CDIS, Ministry of Education, Singapore.

Wacana: Mr Pradana Boy ZTF (The Dialectics of Javanese and Islamic Cultures: An Introduction to Kuntowijoyo’s Thought )
This seminar analyses Kuntowijoyo’s thought on the indigenous and Islamic cultures in Javanese cultural dynamics. Kuntowijoyo is an Indonesian historian known not only for his academic writings but also his significant literary works. Although the two cultural elements, as many have claimed, have not been successfully synthesized, Kuntowijoyo’s works can be presented as a model of how Islamic values can be incorporated in a local cultural context without creating necessary tensions between the two.

About Pradana Boy ZTF 
Pradana is currently doing his Ph.D at National University of Singapore with research focus on ideologies of fatwa-making bodies in Indonesia. He is a lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. He obtained Master of Arts in Asian Studies from Australian National University, (2007)

Wadah: SATU LANGKAH
An introduction to the 5 basic Malay dance repertoires namely, asli, inang, joget, masri and zapin. In this session, participants will have the opportunity to get on their feet and show off their dance moves. Norisham Osman will lead as the segment’s facilitator.

Kuliah : Cikgu Selamat Omar ( Pantun & Adab Melayu )
Pantun suatu bentuk puisi tradisional Melayu, terkenal sebagai ungkapan kesenian dan kesusasteraan Melayu Indonesia yang merakam pandangan dunia, nilai, estetika, dan bahasa bangsa Nusantara ini. Cikgu Selamat Omar, seorang pendidik veteran akan membicarakan pelbagai bentuk dan fungsi pantun, selain memberi tunjuk ajar cara menulis dan menyampaikan pantun dalam berbagai konteks, selain memperlihatkan keindahan dan keperluan genre puisi ini.

Cikgu Selamat Omar, seorang guru Bahasa Melayu telah lama berkhidmat dalam dunia pendidikan. Beliau pernah menjadi pakar kurikulum di CDIS dan telah banyak menghasilkan buku-buku teks bahasa Melayu yang digunakan di Singapura.

Seminar bertajuk
“The Dialectics of Javanese and Islamic Cultures: An Introduction to Kuntowijoyo’s Thought” oleh Pradana Boy ZTF akan membicarakan dinamika pertembungan dan pembauran budaya Islam dan Jawa. Kuntowijoyo sebagai seorang sejarah dan sasterawan terkenal, adalah seorang sarjana yang telah mampu memberi takrifan dan sistesis segar dalam dinamika Islam Jawa, dengan keuniversal Islam diangkat tanpa memperlekeh keperobumian unsur Jawa dan sebaliknya.

Pradana Boy ZTF adalah seorang calon Ph.D di Jabatan Pengajian Melayu, NUS. Beliau pernah bertugas sebagai pensyarah di Fakulti Pengajian Islam, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. Beliau meraih gelar Sarjana (MA) dalam Pengajian Asia dari Australian National University pada 2007.

Wadah: SATU LANGKAH
Segmen ini memperkenalkan lima rentak dan langgam utama dalam tarian Melayu tradisional seperti asli, inang, joget, masri dan zapin. Tarian tarian ini adalah salah satu tradisi kesenian bangsa. Dalam sessi ini para pelajar akan diketengahkan latarbelakang ringkas tentang tarian tersebut, selain dapat melestarikan tarian tersebut, dengan bimbingan khas oleh Norisham Osman, anak muda yang telah banyak berkecimpung dalam tarian tradisonal ini.
