JUBEL: MA’A LOT QUINTETT CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF MUSIC

Founded in 1986, the Ma'alot Quintett is one of the leading international chamber music ensembles today. The quintet – comprising Stephanie Winker (flute), Christian Wetzel (oboe), Ulf-Guido Schäfer (clarinet), Volker Grewel (horn) and Volker Tessmann (basoon). Featuring pieces from Beethoven, Ligeti, Glanert and Taffanel, Ma’alot will perform highlights from their 25 years on stage in a special concert

2011 marks 100 years since Gustav Mahler’s death & 200 years since Franz Liszt’s birth. The Sing-Song Club wishes to pay homage to these two great composers & explore their enduring legacies through their songs. While many of Mahler’s symphonies are well known, this recital will feature songs he originally wrote for voice & orchestra are imbued with the same symphonic vitality & colour, songs such as Rückert Lieder and Das Knaben Wunderhorn.
The Singapore Lieder Festival will feature all three of Schubert’s great cycles, as well as Schumann’s song cycles of 1840. Joining the Sing Song Club’s resident accompanist Shane Thio are Rebecca Li (Soprano), Phua Ee Kia (Countertenor), Adrian Poon (Tenor), Peter Ong (Tenor), Wilson Goh (Tenor), Daniel Fong (Baritone), William Lim (Baritone) and Martin Ng (Bass-baritone)

Conceived & directed by dance artist Tammy Wong, Love Story is an intimate evening of dramatic prose, live piano music & poetic dancing.Wong delves into the choices her maternal grandmother has made & is confronted by the girl she was, the woman she becomes. She discovers at the very core of her grandmother’s love choices, echoes of a shared loss & longing. This performance is the 2nd instalment of a new quarterly series.
